About My Monroe County Future

Cook and CFC Properties created My Monroe County Future to draw attention to issues and concerns about the proposed land-use plan and encourage thoughtful discussion about the future of Monroe County.

Cook, which began in 1963 as a husband-and-wife operation in a Bloomington apartment, now provides good manufacturing and white-collar jobs in the life sciences industry for approximately 3,300 people in Monroe County.

CFC Properties is focused primarily on the restoration of buildings, to preserve their historical value, so that they can become homes to healthy businesses. Prominent examples of CFC properties include Showers Plaza, Fountain Square Mall and Grant Street Inn. In land-use terms, this is known as “brownfield” development and is a stated goal of the proposed Monroe County land-use plan. About 90 percent of CFC properties fall into this category.

For more than 35 years, Cook owned CFC Properties has been a leader in restoration and redevelopment in Bloomington and Monroe County.

Jim Murphy, president of CFC Properties, has been a prominent critic of the proposed Monroe County land-use plan—even though the company could benefit if the proposed plan passes and resulting ordinances reduce the housing supply and raise the cost of housing.
